India’s largest and first Vanadium Redox Flow Battery System of 3 MWh capacity Indigenously developed at NTPC NETRA centre
The Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal on tuesday inaugurated India's first MWh-Scale Vanadium Flow Battery at National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) research facility (NETRA) in Greater Noida.
With a capacity of 3 MWh, the installation marks a significant milestone in India’s push for long-duration energy storage (LDES) solutions to support nationwide renewable energy integration. The Vanadium Redox Flow Battery represents a promising alternative to conventional lithium-ion batteries, offering scalable and long-duration storage with enhanced lifecycle, safety and performance.
This step will help to enhance and expand India's sustainable green energy initiatives and reducing dependence on fossil fuels and help in lowering long-run costs of electricity supply and marking a step towards India's self sustainability with the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
