The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) recently updated the rules to make it compulsory to link Adhaar card with PAN card before 31st of December this year.

The Income Tax Department and the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) have directed all PAN holders to link their Aadhaar by 31 December 2025. From 1 January 2026, any unlinked PAN will become inactive, which means it cannot be used for filing income tax returns, banking, or major financial transactions.

The linking can be done easily on the Income Tax Department’s e-filing website using the “Link Aadhaar” option. You just need your PAN, Aadhaar, and the OTP sent to your registered mobile number. If any details such as your name or date of birth don’t match, they must be corrected first on the respective portals.

This move aims to create a more transparent tax system and reduce fraud by ensuring that every financial identity is verified. Linking PAN and Aadhaar on time helps citizens avoid service disruptions and keeps their financial activities active and compliant.
