Indian Railways has introduced an OTP verification system for Tatkal tickets booked at reservation counters. The move comes after successfully carrying out pilot runs at some stations. Under this system, passengers receive a one-time password on the mobile number written on the reservation form, and the ticket is confirmed only after the OTP is verified.

This initiative is aimed at curbing the misuse of Tatkal facility and ensuring that genuine passengers have better access to high‑demand tickets. This will ensure more security and transparency during tatkal bookings.

This is done as a expansion of Railway Ministry's earlier steps to stop unfair practices in ticket booking with Aadhaar OTP verification for online Tatkal bookings and only allowing Aadhaar verified users to book reserved tickets through the IRCTC website and app during the first 15 minutes after booking opens.
