Fear of being seen as weak or unproductive prevents many from opening up about their mental health at workplace
A new survey by one of the India’s most famous online job portal Naukri, reported that around 1 in 3 among India’s working Professionals hesitate to open up about their mental health condition and are reluctant to take leave for mental-health reasons.
45% people say they would mark it as normal sick leave, 19% told they would avoid leave altogether and 9% of them would make up another reason. Only 28% felt comfortable conveying their mental health reasons.
The top fear here comes out to be the perception of being ‘incapable’ at workplace (Reported from 31% of people), followed by concern about judgment from colleagues (27%) and worries over career impact at 21%.
When it comes to what affected the mental health, poor work-life balance was cited by 39%, micromanagement at office by 30%, and lack of recognition was cited by 22%. As a remedy for this, 60% of respondents said that flexible work arrangements would help them the most.
