New buses signal a major economic investment in eco-friendly and sustainable infrastructure bringing major benefits and relief for daily commuters
The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) has added 157 new air-conditioned electric buses as part of a broader plan to introduce 5,000 such buses in phases. This would gradually cut the waiting time for daily bus commuters and improve Mumbai's public transport system.
As being zero-emission buses, these buses are environmentally sustainable and will help reduce the air pollution of Mumbai. This expansion also enhances the capacity on high-demand routes while contributing to lower pollution and decreased congestion, thus adding value beyond just transport.
Of the newly-introduced buses, 122 PMI-make buses are hired on wet lease from Mumbadevi Mobility Private Limited, while the remaining 35 Olectra-make buses are leased from Evey Trans Maharashtra Private Limited.
